Nestled in a granite boulder field, the organic architecture of the Stonehill Residence is unlike any property in the area. Architect Robert Thiele crafted the curvilinear home in adobe, wood and glass connecting the structure to it surrounding landscape. The deep scalloped eaves extend the roofline into the private 1-acre parcel at the end of a cul de sac. As you enter the James Hubbell-designed front door and surrounding stained glass, you are welcomed into a circular living room anchored by a towering fireplace with the roof structure radiating off the masonry tower. Several rooms’ feature the extraordinary ceramic work of Rhoda Lopez – whether lighting fixtures or a bas-relief, her organic forms in clay connect well with the logic of the home and the sensuous curves of Hubbell’s and Thiele’s lines.
